About Holly Ward
I am a friendly, experienced and super-organised person who endeavours to complete work efficiently, on time, on budget and will remain focused at all times. My year at college has been eye-opening and had allowed me to gain experience in photography, editing and cinematography. Based in King's Lynn, I aim to ensure that every job runs smoothly with no surprises or hidden costs.
Above all else, I find contentment in my friendly and approachable attitude, that is paired nicely with my dedication to work and fulfilling your project's wishes.
Personal Statement:
Creative media has always fascinated me, no matter what form it comes in. The ways people capture their audiences’ attention through small codes and conventions made me yearn to explore and create my own pieces. I find pleasure in many genres of media, ranging from film to website design and magazines. In film specifically, I have recently relished in watching Luca Guadagnino’s Call Me By Your Name and Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, two fantastic movies that are prime examples of why I am so inquisitive about what processes are behind such amazing productions. I eagerly await my chance to expand my knowledge of creative media genres as what I have already been introduced to hasn’t yet fulfilled what I am looking for.
More recently in my education I have planned, produced and edited a multi-camera shoot for the first time. Having complete control of the situation allowed me to experience first-hand the difficulties and the pleasures of using advanced equipment and editing software such as Adobe Premier Pro. This project has given me new skills in video editing, SFX and Photoshop as well as giving me ample opportunity to expand on my time-management and communication skills.
Outside of education and in my spare time, I create posters on my iPad, make sketchbooks for art genres that interest me and have done professional photography and editing for a watch selling business. All these experiences have outlined the skills I need to produce a creative portfolio in all my projects, and I deem these to be useful transferable skills that I will continue to use in my future.
Recently, I participated as the Producer for a team of people that reached the semi-finals of WorldSkills UK Live at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College. We were put under pressure and faced many other teams to create inspirational and promotional videos. As a result, we placed top 10 in the UK. This competition allowed me to experience planning, creative thinking, time-management and team work all whilst in a time-sensitive environment. Three years ago, I completed The Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise and received a Bronze award. Later in 2018, I achieved the Silver award too. These achievements taught me how to be a good citizen, a dedicated worker and a great entrepreneur. While earning these awards, I also learnt the importance of creativity and originality when making a business and what is essential to making a product successful.
Previously, I volunteered in college as a crew member and operated Black Magic cameras in graduation ceremonies, as well as music performances. This voluntary work taught me everything I know about cameras, from setting up the equipment on to white balancing to camera positions and angles. Currently, I have a part-time job working in front of customers has given me a friendly face in my community and working around my employees to satisfy customers has taught me how important communication and teamwork can really be. Additionally, I was interviewed to be a prefect and retrieved a spot based on the causes that I felt needed to be addressed. At the beginning of college, I was elected to be student representative, these nominations ensure that I am a friendly, likeable and approachable face that people look up to.
Prior to me joining a new school, I had never heard of media studies, it was a new experience that I decided to take part in. From that day, I have followed the subject throughout high school and into college with the interest of pursuing a career at University and beyond.
